

BARKA: A symposium held in the Wilayat of Barka on Tuesday discussed key environmental and agricultural challenges facing plant life, namely through the spread of red palm weevil and mesquite trees.
The symposium was organised by the Directorate-General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Batinah South Governorate.
The symposium sought ways to consolidate the role of community partnership in addressing challenges posed by plant pests and invasive species that endanger the ecological balance. It also elaborated on the National Campaign to Remove Mesquite Trees and the Programme to Contain Red Palm Weevil.
The symposium included working papers and a presentation of educational visual materials featuring efforts to combat red palm weevil and remove mesquite trees. It also included an exhibition that showcased models of control and prevention of such hazards. - ONA
